Associate Expert: Mineral Supply Chains

Nicolas is a mineral supply chains expert with particular expertise in artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) supply chains. He has worked for a variety of international donors and national governments, as well as mining, trading and electronic companies.
His work for the private sector has centred on supply chain mappings up to individual mine sites, the evaluation and design of responsible procurement policies for both fortune 500 companies and SMEs, and conducting mine site assessments against OECD Due Diligence Guidance aligned standards in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Complementing these private sector engagements he has also worked on government-mandated assignments in the mining sectors of Colombia, the DRC, Madagascar, Niger and Sri Lanka and worked for the European Union as part of the Horizon 2020 program.
Nicolas is an advisor to the Colombian Mining Observatory, OCMI and a founder and advisor to the Fundación Ava Jeva Amazonía, where he focuses on sustainable cattle ranching and common pool resources governance issues. He is also an active member of the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime and the founder and director of Afai Consulting.
Nicolas holds an MSc in Security Studies from University College London and a BA in Political Science from the University of Lausanne with a focus on Political and Development Economics undertaken at the Copenhagen Business School and Copenhagen University. He speaks fluent English, French, and Spanish and has a good written and verbal understanding of Brazilian Portuguese.
