John is Head of Technology at twentyfifty and responsible for digital products and services. He brings a broad range of expertise to the table, in particular twenty years of software engineering, most recently as an agile team lead in the Berlin startup scene for e-commerce outfit itembase on cutting edge topics like machine learning, data mining and big data.
John is a strategic thinker and uses his knowledge of technology to identify the best options for our clients and achieve excellent results with the team. He is highly experienced in working in international settings in agile environments.
For years, he has been consulting private and public actors on their digital strategy, in particular the United Nations Global Compact Network Germany where he also successfully delivered multiple web projects.
John has worked extensively with data sets relating to the SDGs and human rights in general and published articles in peer-reviewed journals in a previous role as Research Associate at the Freie Universität in Berlin. Notably in 2010, he was one of the first to apply supervised machine learning to create a georeferenced dataset on conflict and civil war in Sierra Leone from published media.
John studied computer science and political science at the Freie Universität Berlin and at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and holds a diploma (MA equivalent) in computer science.
