Esther Maughan McLachlan

Esther is a marketing and communications specialist with particular expertise in engaging on the environmental and social issues facing business.

A creative strategist and talented writer, her action learning approach is participative and energetic, combining hands-on project delivery with well-developed research and analytical skills.

Recent client work includes:

  • An action inquiry group exploring sustainable development communications practices through peer support and learning
  • Piloting the Environment Agency’s new Building Trust with Communities stakeholder engagement approach and developing the best practice toolkit
  • The communications strategy for Collaboration Benefits, a £3m programme to spread partnership working practices throughout the voluntary and community sectors
  • The development of One Planet Culture, a new initiative using the arts and media to prompt eco-awareness and action.

Previously Head of Communications the Sustainable Development Commission, Esther developed her consultancy experience in a consumer-focused branding environment at Interbrand.

She holds a Classics degree from St Anne's College, Oxford, a Masters degree in Management from the University of Bath and is a visiting lecturer on sustainable marketing, design and globalisation at a number of UK universities.

Esther is currently studying for an MPhil/PhD exploring marketing professionals' values, attitudes and practices towards sustainability.
